Walkin’ the Country 3

donateThe sneakers are out…the path is set….and the feet are screaming!!

On September 8th, Chris Allinger set out again on his trek across Tompkins County collecting money for the The Food Bank’s BackPack Program™.  The first two years of the walk raised nearly $50,000 for the program and saw it expand through Tompkins County.  The walk continues for a third year to continue to expand the program and sustain it in the schools where children rely on it.

Phone your contribution by calling the Resource Development office at the Food Bank at 607.796.6061 Monday-Friday 9AM-4PM and mention “Walkin’ the Country 3” or donate securely online Walkin’ the Country 3.

The Food Bank’s BackPack Program™ provides healthy, child-friendly, and easy to prepare foods to children at risk of hunger over weekends and holiday breaks when children do not have access to free or reduced price school meal programs. Each Friday children in need receive a bag of simple, easy to prepare food to get them through weekends and holidays.  These children, who rely on school lunch programs for sustenance, would otherwise go hungry when school is out.

Chris’s walk will take him to every corner of the county collecting the $3 dollars that it takes to fill a child’s backpack for the weekend.

Cold-water immersion may offer health benefits — and also presents risks

Claims about the benefits of cold-water immersion date back centuries. Thomas Jefferson, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence and the third American president, wrote toward the end of his life about using a cold foot bath daily for 60 years. He also owned a book published in 1706 on the history of cold-water bathing.
